Most banner patterns start life as a loom recipe: a handful of dye and a base ingredient like a creeper head or a piece of vine, all craftable the moment you have the materials. The globe pattern skips that path entirely. No crafting-table combination in the game produces it, and no other structure or loot table hands it over either. A Cartographer at master selling it for 8 emeralds is not a shortcut past a recipe, it is the only listed source there is.

That also makes it the priciest single decoration on his sheet. Every other pattern-style item a villager sells has some cheaper crafted alternative sitting behind it. This one does not, so the price is not competing against a grid recipe the way a banner or an item frame does.

Once bought, it works like any other pattern: applied at a loom over a plain banner, it stamps a globe design onto the cloth and stays there through however many colour layers get added afterward.

The price holds across every Cartographer who has made the climb, fixed in the trade file rather than rolled per villager, so a second one at master charges exactly the same. What varies is only how many of his 12 uses are left before the slot needs to restock.

Claiming an unemployed villager with a cartography table makes him a Cartographer right away, but this pattern sits at the very top of his ladder. He starts at novice and only reaches master once he has traded his way to 250 trade experience, the last tier the profession has.

Every completed sale along the way pays experience toward the next tier, whichever offer it happened to be.

Once open, the slot sells 12 patterns before locking, and a villager restocks twice a Minecraft day at most, so 24 globe patterns is the daily ceiling for one Cartographer no matter how many emeralds are waiting.

12 patterns close the slot out, and the villager needs 2 real minutes back at his cartography table before it opens again. A Minecraft day runs 20 real minutes, room enough for exactly two of those refills.

Stay for the whole day and one Cartographer sells 24 patterns for 192 emeralds, the ceiling for one villager regardless of how much longer you wait. A second Cartographer at the same tier is the only way past it.

Since a lower-tier villager can never carry this offer, do not bother checking a fresh Cartographer for it. Only one already sitting at master is worth the conversation.

Where the emeralds come from: the same Cartographer pays an emerald for a single compass, the cheapest thing on his own list and an easy way to fund the pattern you are buying from him.

The pattern is not the banner. It is applied at a loom, one pattern over a banner and a dye, and the dye is what decides the colour the globe comes out in. A banner holds several layers stacked on top of each other, so the globe is usually the last one added over a plain field.

Once a banner carries the design, a blank banner placed next to it in a crafting grid takes a copy, which is how a base with many walls ends up with the same emblem everywhere without buying the pattern twice. The pattern itself stays in your inventory rather than being spent on the first banner.

A banner pattern is not consumed the way the dye is. Use it at a loom and the pattern item stays in your inventory, so one globe pattern decorates as many banners as you like, which is the whole reason the price is what it is.

Banners themselves are six wool and a stick, and a finished one copies onto another blank banner on a crafting grid. That means a design worked out once can be mass produced without repeating the loom work.

Put a banner on a shield and the shield wears the design, which is the only way a pattern ends up somewhere other than a wall.
