Blue Orchid in Minecraft trading

Out of the trader's four dye flowers, this is the one tied to the least convenient biome. Blue orchid only grows in swamp, a place most players are already trying to leave rather than linger in, between the fog, the witches and the slow-moving water. Paying 1 emerald to the trader is a real shortcut here in a way it is not for the flowers that grow on open plains.

Nothing else in the game's own data crafts into that same light blue dye, which makes this the single-source flower on his whole shelf. One orchid on a crafting grid is all the recipe takes, no second ingredient involved.

The wandering trader is not a villager: he keeps no reputation, so curing one and winning a raid both leave his prices exactly where they are. His trade files carry a price multiplier all the same, and nothing in the game reads it.

Your odds of finding Blue Orchid

Blue orchid sits in the same common pool as the rest of the trader's everyday stock, so it is no harder or easier to roll than any flower next to it. A fresh trader carries it on 6.4% of his rolls, which comes out to about 15.6 of them checked on average before one is selling it.

The chance is the draw size over the pool size in the game's own trade set file for that tier. The Bedrock line under it is the same sum on Bedrock's own table, which splits a tier into groups and draws out of each one separately, so the two editions often disagree. The wandering trader has no workstation and never restocks, so his row is everything that offer will ever give you, and he has no reputation to earn, so curing does nothing for him. Counted from the game's own draw sizes. How that check works.

Who trades Blue Orchid, and at what price

The Wandering Trader is the only seller, at 1 emerald for 1 blue orchid, with no offer anywhere that buys it back once it is in your inventory.

Job villagers ignore it completely, the same as every other flower on this site. Decoration and dye plants never made it into the trade tables of a Farmer, Cleric or any other profession.

Is buying Blue Orchid from the Wandering Trader worth it?

He asks 1 emerald each, and 27 of the other 75 come cheaper. Price is the easy part: he draws his stock from a shared pool, so catching one that happens to be carrying blue orchid is the real constraint.

What 1 emerald costs in goods

The Wandering Trader asks 1 emerald for a blue orchid. 8 of the 72 villagers that pay emeralds, emptied out:

How to actually get Blue Orchid from the trader

Nothing about a job villager applies to him. He is not part of a village, arrives on his own near the player with two leashed llamas, stays around forty minutes to an hour, and leaves for good whether a trade happened or not. There is no workstation to place and no job block whose destruction would change what he carries.

Selling blue orchid to him is off the table entirely. He only ever buys six named items, and flowers sit outside that list, so this trade runs strictly one direction: your emeralds for his stock.

Whether he has blue orchid at all depends on the partial slice of his full list that spawn happened to roll, never the complete set at once. A name tag keeps a useful trader from despawning, turning a passing merchant into a shop you can revisit.

Tips for trading Blue Orchid

A full stack from the trader runs 64 emeralds across 64 trades, and given how unpleasant swamp travel tends to be, that price is usually worth paying rather than wading through mud and fog to pick your own.

Since his stock travels together, check what else he has before walking off. Also on the wandering trader's list: allium, azure bluet, red tulip, orange tulip, white tulip and pink tulip.

Swamp blue, and no substitute

A blue orchid grows only in swamps, and it gives light blue dye. The alternative is mixing blue and white, so the flower is a shortcut rather than a monopoly, but it is the only one that grows already the right colour.

It also stands out for being the one bright thing in a biome full of muted greens, which is why builders use it in ponds and gardens. Bone meal on swamp grass produces them, so a supply is a matter of standing in the right place.

A flower that will not grow where you want it

Bone meal on grass only produces the flowers that belong to that biome, and the blue orchid belongs to the swamp. Take one home to a plains base and you can plant it, but you cannot make more of it there.

That makes the orchid one of the few flowers where the trade is genuinely the easier route: the alternative is a return trip to a swamp with a stack of bone meal.

Bees work it like any other flower, and it goes into a suspicious stew with its own effect, so a patch is worth keeping intact rather than turning all of it into dye.
