Pumpkin in villager trading

Pumpkin is a raw-material trade: villagers pay emeralds for it, which makes it a candidate for an automated emerald farm rather than something you purchase back.

Pumpkin is a farmable crop. Large automated farms make it trivial to mass-produce, which is exactly why villagers buying it form the backbone of most emerald farms. No recipe in Java 26.2 produces it: it is gathered from the world rather than made. 1 of them make 4 pumpkin seeds.

All 2 trades on this item were read out of the trade files Minecraft Java 26.2 ships in its own data, checked on against the item, both amounts and the use limit. Bedrock 1.26.30.5 is read as well, and where it disagrees the row says how. Which files, and what is not checked.

Your odds of finding Pumpkin

A villager only shows part of its trade table, so knowing who trades pumpkin is not the same as getting it. The friendliest roll here is the farmer (apprentice): 67% of them carry it, so it takes about 1.5 of them on average before one does.

The chance is the draw size over the pool size in the game's own trade set file for that tier. The Bedrock line under it is the same sum on Bedrock's own table, which splits a tier into groups and draws out of each one separately, so the two editions often disagree. The day figure is the trade's use limit times the 2 restocks a villager is allowed per in-game day (Villager.allowedToRestock), so it is a ceiling and not an average: it assumes you are there for every restock. The wandering trader has no workstation and never restocks, so his row is everything that offer will ever give you, and he has no reputation to earn, so curing does nothing for him. The cure column is 125 reputation times the trade's own multiplier, floored, and never takes a cost below one. Counted from the game's own draw sizes. How that check works.

Who trades Pumpkin, and at what price

The Wandering Trader sells Pumpkin for 1 emerald each. He does not buy pumpkin back: that offer runs one way.

To sell Pumpkin for emeralds, bring it to a Farmer at the Apprentice tier (6 units per 1 emerald).

Is trading Pumpkin worth it?

The best rate any villager offers is an emerald per 6 pumpkins, from the Farmer, and 1 of the other 5 pays out faster. No villager sells pumpkin back, so it is emeralds out and nothing in.

What 1 emerald costs in goods

The Wandering Trader asks 1 emerald for a pumpkin. 8 of the 72 villagers that pay emeralds, emptied out:

an acacia boat against 30 flint for the same 1 emerald, 30 times the carrying, and the shortest wait is the Butcher at 37.5 real seconds of shelf, gathering not counted. Pumpkin itself pays 6 an emerald, so 23 of the 72 ask less and 46 ask more.

How Pumpkin trading works

Every pumpkin offer here locks after 12 uses, and a villager restocks up to twice per Minecraft day, so one is good for 24 of these trades a day and no more.

The earliest pumpkin shows up is the Farmer's Apprentice tier, level 2 of five, which a villager reaches at 10 trade experience. A freshly employed one is 1 tier short of offering pumpkin at all.

How long Pumpkin takes in real time

72 pumpkins empty one slot at the Farmer, 2400 ticks (Villager.allowedToRestock) at 20 a second (TickRateManager) refill it 2 real minutes later, and the 24000-tick villager day (Timelines) holds 2 of those fills in 20 real minutes.

So one farmer moves 144 pumpkins against 24 emeralds a Minecraft day, 6 pumpkins every 50 real seconds, 1.2 emeralds a real minute. 64 pumpkins fit inside one of those slots, refill untouched.

Tips for trading Pumpkin

  • One villager, one restock: the Farmer pays an emerald per 6 pumpkins and that slot runs 12 trades, so 72 pumpkins is all one will take before it locks, for 12 emeralds in total.
  • Where they go back: that Farmer also sells bread, 6 for 1 emerald, its cheapest offer.
  • Also on the Farmer's list: pumpkin pie, apple, melon, cookie, cake, suspicious stew.

Pumpkin trading FAQ

How many pumpkins make an emerald?
6 pumpkins at the best rate any villager offers, from the Farmer at the Apprentice tier. That slot runs 12 trades before it locks, so one villager takes 72 of them per restock.
Which villager sells Pumpkin?
None. Pumpkin is bought from you rather than sold to you, so trading is a way to turn it into emeralds and not a way to obtain it.
