Birch Sapling in Minecraft trading
Birch Sapling is a Wandering Trader exclusive: no job villager buys or sells it at all, so the roaming merchant with the two llamas is the only source, at 5 emeralds each.
Birch Sapling grows into a full tree, so a single one is effectively an unlimited supply of that wood once you plant it and let it drop more saplings. No recipe in Java 26.2 produces it: it comes out of birch leaves, 5% of the time, 10% with Fortune III.

The 1 trade on this item was read out of the trade files Minecraft Java 26.2 ships in its own data, checked on against the item, both amounts and the use limit. Bedrock 1.26.30.5 is read as well, and where it disagrees the row says how. Which files, and what is not checked.
Your odds of finding Birch Sapling
A villager only shows part of its trade table, so knowing who trades birch sapling is not the same as getting it. The friendliest roll here is the wandering trader (common pool): 6.6% of them carry it, so it takes about 15.2 of them on average before one does.
| Villager | Tier | Villagers with this offer | Rolls to see it | Most from one villager | After a cure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wandering Trader | common pool | 6.6% (5 in 76)same in Bedrock | about 15.2 | 8 birch sapling in totalhe never restocks | cannot be cured |
The chance is the draw size over the pool size in the game's own trade set file for that tier. The Bedrock line under it is the same sum on Bedrock's own table, which splits a tier into groups and draws out of each one separately, so the two editions often disagree. The wandering trader has no workstation and never restocks, so his row is everything that offer will ever give you, and he has no reputation to earn, so curing does nothing for him. Counted from the game's own draw sizes. How that check works.
Who trades Birch Sapling, and at what price
The Wandering Trader sells Birch Sapling for 5 emeralds each. He does not buy birch sapling back: that offer runs one way.
No standard villager profession lists Birch Sapling in its trade table, so the trader above is the whole market for it.
Is buying Birch Sapling from the Wandering Trader worth it?
He asks 5 emeralds each, and 64 of the other 75 come cheaper. Price is the easy part: he draws his stock from a shared pool, so catching one that happens to be carrying birch sapling is the real constraint.

What 5 emeralds cost in goods
The Wandering Trader asks 5 emeralds for a birch sapling. 8 of the 72 villagers that pay emeralds, emptied out:
| A full slot of | To | Emeralds | Buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 acacia boats | master Fisherman | 12 | 2.4 birch saplings |
| 24 book and quills | expert Librarian | 12 | 2.4 birch saplings |
| 64 raw rabbit | novice Butcher | 16 | 3.2 birch saplings |
| 96 tripwire hooks | master Fletcher | 12 | 2.4 birch saplings |
| 192 any dye | journeyman Shepherd | 16 | 3.2 birch saplings |
| 240 raw cod | apprentice Fisherman | 16 | 3.2 birch saplings |
| 320 wheat | novice Farmer | 16 | 3.2 birch saplings |
| 384 paper | novice Librarian | 16 | 3.2 birch saplings |
5 acacia boats against 120 paper for the same 5 emeralds, 24 times the carrying, and the shortest wait is the Butcher at 3.1 real minutes of shelf, gathering not counted.
How to actually get Birch Sapling from the trader
The Wandering Trader is not part of any village. He arrives on his own near where you are playing, with two leashed trader llamas behind him, stays for roughly forty minutes to an hour, and then vanishes whether or not you traded with him. There is no workstation to place and no job block to break, so the usual tricks for steering a villager toward a particular offer do nothing.
He does not buy birch sapling. He takes six kinds of item and this is not one of them, so the offer runs one way: emeralds out of your inventory, birch sapling into it.
Each trader carries only a slice of the full stock list, so the one standing in front of you may simply not have birch sapling today. If he does and you want more than one visit's worth, put a name tag on him: a named mob will not despawn, which turns a passing merchant into a permanent shop you can come back to.
