Horn Coral Block in Minecraft trading
Horn coral is the yellow one, the colour that reads warmest against sand and does not fight with orange or brown terracotta the way blue or purple coral would. That makes it the coral block builders actually reach for on land, in a desert base or a sandstone courtyard, rather than saving it for an aquarium. The Wandering Trader sells the live block for 3 emeralds, no reef trip needed.
It is worth knowing what that purchase gets you into. No recipe in the game's files produces horn coral block, so a crafting table is never an option, and mining a live one without Silk Touch on the pickaxe hands you nothing back. Trading it is the only route that does not involve a warm ocean and an enchanted tool.
The catch is that yellow, sitting on dry ground, does not stay yellow. Coral needs a water source touching it to keep its colour, so a horn coral block dropped into a desert courtyard without a pool underneath bleaches out within moments. Some builders let that happen on purpose, for the pale, sun-dried look; most plan the pool first.

The 1 trade on this item was read out of the trade files Minecraft Java 26.3 ships in its own data, checked on against the item, both amounts and the use limit. Bedrock 1.26.50.4 is read as well, and where it disagrees the row says how. Which files, and what is not checked.
Odds, groups and price rules for Horn Coral Block

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 6.4% | 6.4% | 3 | no discounts | does not apply |
The wandering trader is not a villager: he keeps no reputation, so curing one and winning a raid both leave his prices exactly where they are. His trade files carry a price multiplier all the same, and nothing in the game reads it.
Your odds of finding Horn Coral Block
The trader's common pool runs to 78 possible offers, of which any one merchant shows 5, putting horn coral block on 6.4% of the traders you meet and about 15.6 of them between sightings on average. That number sits the same for every colour of coral block he sells, yellow included, so there is nothing to hunt for specifically beyond finding a trader carrying any coral at all.
| Villager | Tier | Villagers with this offer | Rolls to see it | Most from one villager | After a cure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wandering Trader | common pool | 6.4% (5 in 78)same in Bedrock | about 15.6 | 8 horn coral block in totalhe never restocks | cannot be cured |
The chance is the draw size over the pool size in the game's own trade set file for that tier. The Bedrock line under it is the same sum on Bedrock's own table, which splits a tier into groups and draws out of each one separately, so the two editions often disagree. The wandering trader has no workstation and never restocks, so his row is everything that offer will ever give you, and he has no reputation to earn, so curing does nothing for him. Counted from the game's own draw sizes. How that check works.
Who trades Horn Coral Block, and at what price
Just the Wandering Trader, just 3 emeralds, and just the 8 uses his stock gives you before the row goes grey for good. He does not restock it afterward. No profession sells horn coral block on any tier and no profession buys it either, so this is the entire market for the item in either edition.
There is no range on the price. It is a flat number in the trade file, so any two traders who both happen to be carrying horn coral block quote the same 3 emeralds.
Is buying Horn Coral Block from the Wandering Trader worth it?
He asks 3 emeralds each, and 57 of the other 75 come cheaper. Price is the easy part: he draws his stock from a shared pool, so catching one that happens to be carrying horn coral block is the real constraint.

What 3 emeralds cost in goods
The Wandering Trader asks 3 emeralds for a horn coral block. 8 of the 72 villagers that pay emeralds, emptied out:
| A full slot of | To | Emeralds | Buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| journeyman Armorer | 4 horn coral blocks | ||

3 diamonds against 72 paper for the same 3 emeralds, 24 times the carrying, and the shortest wait is the Fisherman at 1.9 real minutes of shelf, gathering not counted.
How to actually get Horn Coral Block from the trader
The trader spawns wherever you happen to be, not inside any village, arrives with two leashed llamas, and leaves again forty minutes to an hour later regardless of what you bought from him. He has no workstation, so nothing you place or break changes what he is carrying: his five common offers and two rarities are decided the instant he spawns.
He will not buy horn coral block back off you. His buying list only covers 6 kinds of item and coral is not among them, so the trade is one direction only. And because that stock is a slice of a much longer list, the merchant in front of you today may simply not have horn coral block at all, no matter how long you wait, since he never rerolls once he has spawned.
Naming him with a name tag stops the despawn timer, which is the only lever you have. It turns one lucky encounter into a shop you can walk back to, still selling the same yellow block at the same 3 emeralds until his 8 uses run out.
Tips for trading Horn Coral Block
Plan the pool before you plan the block. Horn coral only keeps its yellow while touching a water source, so a land build wants a shallow trench or a glass-sealed tank under it, not a bare patch of sand. Skip that step and the 24 emeralds you spent on a full slot turns pale within the hour.
Buy small. A single block against terracotta or sandstone does more for a build than a whole wall of it, and at 3 emeralds each there is no cost saving to buying in bulk that outweighs the risk of it drying out unattended.
Also on the wandering trader's list: tube coral block, pale hanging moss, sulfur spike, rooted dirt, pale moss block and wildflowers.
The yellow one
Horn coral is the yellow member of a family of five that are all the same block wearing different colours. Every one of them dies out of water, turns grey, and stays grey, so the colour you buy is a colour you can lose by breaking the wrong bucket.
Yellow is the one people reach for when a build wants warm without going orange, and it sits well next to sandstone for that reason. Sealed behind glass with a water source inside, it keeps indefinitely.
It only exists in warm ocean reefs, and taking it home alive means Silk Touch. Anything else and you are carrying grey.
