ENCHANTED DIAMOND HOE

The Toolsmith is the villager who hands out enchanted diamond gear, and he does it for the pickaxe, the axe and the shovel. The hoe is the one he leaves out. The plain diamond hoe does appear on his sheet, but never with an enchantment attached.

That is worth saying plainly, because the pattern everywhere else on this site is that the enchanted version costs more and rolls a random enchantment on top. Here there is no such row to price at all.

Making one is the only route: 2 diamonds and two sticks for the tool, and then your own enchanting table or an enchanted book from a Librarian for whatever goes on it.

A hoe takes the ordinary tool enchantments, so Unbreaking and Mending are the two that actually pay off on a tool you use every harvest. Fortune and Silk Touch can land on one as well, though neither changes what tilling gives you.

Buying the book instead of gambling at the table is the cheaper route for a specific enchantment, since a Librarian's offer names the enchantment before you pay. Combine the book and the hoe on an anvil and the roll is settled rather than rolled.

For most players, no. A hoe tills at the same speed whatever it is made of, so the diamond version buys durability rather than pace, and the enchantment that matters most is the one that stops it wearing out at all.

Where it does earn its place is a large farm feeding the Farmer, where the tool is swung thousands of times and a trip back to the crafting table costs more than the diamonds did. If that is the plan, the enchanted shovel and pickaxe the Toolsmith does sell, like the enchanted diamond shovel, are still the better first purchases.

A diamond hoe is the running joke of the game, and the enchanted one is where the joke gets thin. A hoe with Fortune multiplies what a crop drops, Unbreaking keeps it alive through a farm the size of a village, and Mending pays for itself out of the harvest.

It is also the fastest tool in the game against a few blocks nothing else is good at: hay bales, leaves, sponges and the various plant blocks all break faster with a hoe than with anything you would instinctively reach for.

Buying it enchanted skips the part everybody skips: nobody spends table levels on a hoe. That is exactly why the traded one is the only enchanted hoe most worlds ever see.
