Red Mushroom in Minecraft trading
Red Mushroom is a Wandering Trader exclusive: no job villager buys or sells it at all, so the roaming merchant with the two llamas is the only source, at 1 emerald for 3.
Red Mushroom spreads on its own in low light, which makes one specimen enough to start a renewable farm. It also feeds into suspicious stew and rabbit stew, the two recipes that make mushrooms worth keeping around. No recipe in Java 26.2 produces it: it drops from zombies, and it comes out of red mushroom block.

The 1 trade on this item was read out of the trade files Minecraft Java 26.2 ships in its own data, checked on against the item, both amounts and the use limit. Bedrock 1.26.30.5 is read as well, and where it disagrees the row says how. Which files, and what is not checked.
Your odds of finding Red Mushroom
A villager only shows part of its trade table, so knowing who trades red mushroom is not the same as getting it. The friendliest roll here is the wandering trader (common pool): 6.6% of them carry it, so it takes about 15.2 of them on average before one does.
| Villager | Tier | Villagers with this offer | Rolls to see it | Most from one villager | After a cure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wandering Trader | common pool | 6.6% (5 in 76)same in Bedrock | about 15.2 | 12 red mushroom in total4 uses, he never restocks | cannot be cured |
The chance is the draw size over the pool size in the game's own trade set file for that tier. The Bedrock line under it is the same sum on Bedrock's own table, which splits a tier into groups and draws out of each one separately, so the two editions often disagree. The wandering trader has no workstation and never restocks, so his row is everything that offer will ever give you, and he has no reputation to earn, so curing does nothing for him. Counted from the game's own draw sizes. How that check works.
Who trades Red Mushroom, and at what price
The Wandering Trader sells Red Mushroom for 1 emerald for 3. He does not buy red mushroom back: that offer runs one way.
No standard villager profession lists Red Mushroom in its trade table, so the trader above is the whole market for it.
Is buying Red Mushroom from the Wandering Trader worth it?
He asks 1 emerald for 3, which works out at well under an emerald each, and 16 of the other 75 come cheaper. Price is the easy part: he draws his stock from a shared pool, so catching one that happens to be carrying red mushroom is the real constraint.

What 1 emerald costs in goods
The Wandering Trader asks 1 emerald for 3 red mushrooms. 8 of the 72 villagers that pay emeralds, emptied out:
| A full slot of | To | Emeralds | Buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 oak boats | master Fisherman | 12 | 36 red mushrooms |
| 36 gold ingots | apprentice Cleric | 12 | 36 red mushrooms |
| 96 leather | novice Leatherworker | 16 | 48 red mushrooms |
| 96 tripwire hooks | master Fletcher | 12 | 36 red mushrooms |
| 144 nether quartz | expert Mason | 12 | 36 red mushrooms |
| 240 raw cod | apprentice Fisherman | 16 | 48 red mushrooms |
| 320 stone | apprentice Mason | 16 | 48 red mushrooms |
| 312 flint | apprentice Fletcher | 12 | 36 red mushrooms |
an oak boat against 26 flint for the same 1 emerald, 26 times the carrying, and the shortest wait is the Leatherworker at 37.5 real seconds of shelf, gathering not counted.
How to actually get Red Mushroom from the trader
The Wandering Trader is not part of any village. He arrives on his own near where you are playing, with two leashed trader llamas behind him, stays for roughly forty minutes to an hour, and then vanishes whether or not you traded with him. There is no workstation to place and no job block to break, so the usual tricks for steering a villager toward a particular offer do nothing.
He does not buy red mushroom. He takes six kinds of item and this is not one of them, so the offer runs one way: emeralds out of your inventory, red mushroom into it.
Each trader carries only a slice of the full stock list, so the one standing in front of you may simply not have red mushroom today. If he does and you want more than one visit's worth, put a name tag on him: a named mob will not despawn, which turns a passing merchant into a permanent shop you can come back to.
Tips for trading Red Mushroom
- What a full stack costs: he asks 1 emerald for 3 red mushrooms, so a full stack of 64 means 22 emeralds across 22 trades.
- Also on the wandering trader's list: lily pad, sand, red sand, pointed dripstone, small dripleaf, moss block.
